6 Found Dead in Cargo Train Boxcar at Union Pacific Rail Yard in Laredo
Six people were found dead inside a cargo train boxcar at a Union Pacific rail yard in Laredo, Texas, according to police and Associated Press reporting.
Authorities said the bodies were discovered Sunday after rail workers located people inside a boxcar at the yard near the U.S.-Mexico border. Officials have not yet publicly identified the victims or released preliminary causes of death.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not confirmed whether foul play is suspected.
The incident immediately drew attention because of its location in Laredo, one of the busiest commercial freight gateways between the United States and Mexico. The city plays a major role in cross-border rail and cargo movement, with Union Pacific lines carrying freight through South Texas daily.
While officials have not publicly connected the deaths to migration activity, freight trains and cargo containers near the border have previously been involved in dangerous transportation and smuggling incidents during periods of high migration pressure.

Investigators are expected to determine how long the victims were inside the railcar and whether heat, lack of ventilation, medical distress, or other factors contributed to the deaths.
The case could also raise renewed questions about rail yard security and the risks associated with unauthorized access to freight equipment moving through border corridors.
Authorities said additional details would be released as the investigation develops.
