ActBlue Under Investigation. Dark Money? Business as Usual.
The Trump administration’s probe reveals more about political priorities than campaign finance integrity.
When President Trump ordered a federal investigation into ActBlue this week, headlines lit up with claims of suspicious donations and foreign interference. The focus? 237 donations flagged by ActBlue’s fraud detection system, each linked to a foreign IP address.
It’s a convenient narrative: a Democratic fundraising platform framed as a potential gateway for illegal money.
But while federal agents comb through $20 donations, no one’s asking about the billions flooding American politics through Super PACs, dark money networks, and billionaires writing eight-figure checks. No investigations. No executive orders. Just business as usual.
So what exactly triggered this sudden federal spotlight on ActBlue? Let’s break down the so-called scandal.

The ActBlue Investigation: A Solution in Search of a Problem
On April 24, President Trump directed the DOJ to investigate ActBlue, citing concerns over potential foreign donations and fraud. The headline figure—237 foreign IP addresses—was designed to sound alarming.
However, flagging suspicious transactions is standard security, not evidence of crime. A foreign IP could belong to a U.S. citizen abroad, a traveler, or someone using a VPN. There’s been no proof that illegal donations occurred, just that ActBlue’s system worked as intended.
Democrats were quick to call it out.
“This is not a legitimate investigation—it’s a political stunt,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin. “The Trump administration, entangled for years with foreign money, now weaponizes law enforcement against small-dollar donors.”
ActBlue CEO Regina Wallace-Jones added:
“This isn’t about fraud. It’s about silencing millions of Americans who use ActBlue to participate in democracy.”
Before we go further, let’s clear up one of the most misleading talking points driving this investigation.
🎧 Audio Summary:
For listeners: A donation linked to something ‘foreign’ isn’t automatically illegal. Americans abroad, green card holders, and U.S.-based subsidiaries of foreign companies can donate legally. What’s banned are direct donations from foreign nationals.
So yes, ActBlue flagged potential issues—because that’s what it’s supposed to do.
What’s Not Being Investigated
While small donors face scrutiny, here’s what’s ignored:
$3.4 billion in Super PAC spending (2024).
$1.1 billion in dark money, largely anonymous.
Billionaires legally buying influence.
Take Elon Musk—over $260 million donated in 2024, followed by his appointment to lead the Department of Government Efficiency.

All legal. All untouched by federal probes.
The System Isn’t Broken. It’s Built This Way
Why chase $20 donors while billionaires walk free? Because America’s campaign finance system protects big money, hides dark money, and gives politicians tools to target opponents.
Watchdogs aren’t fooled.
“Targeting ActBlue while ignoring billions in dark money is like searching for pennies while billionaires walk off with the vault,” said the Campaign Legal Center.
Public Citizen added: “If they cared about corruption, they’d start where it’s obvious—not with transparent small donors.”
Polls show Americans want reform. Washington shows them the door.

If this feels like a rigged game, that’s because it is. But not everywhere plays by these rules.
Reform Isn’t Impossible. It’s Just Unwelcome
This year, Hawai'i banned donations from majority foreign-owned corporations—something Congress refuses to do.
See our reporting on this legislation here:
Globally, countries like the UK and Canada limit spending, ban corporate cash, and keep elections clean. As we’ve reported, the U.S. could too if power didn’t depend on keeping the floodgates open.
It Was Never About Integrity
The ActBlue investigation isn’t about protecting democracy. It’s about punishing a platform that gives ordinary Americans a voice.
Because in Washington, billionaires don’t get investigated—they get inaugurated.
And the real threat isn’t a foreign national sneaking $50 past a fraud detector; it’s millions of Americans chipping in $10 at a time to take that power back.

Giving any credence to this bullshit is disgraceful. Let's tell the "investigators" that we know what they are trying to do, and we are more powerful than they are. Bullies, you are all sons of bitches and will get what's coming to you sooner than later.
Trump’s administration is filled with swamp creatures who feed on greed and other people’s money. Trump had over 4000 lawsuits over his businesses from 1973-2016 when he first got elected. Most of those lawsuits never went anywhere, nor the lawsuits alleging sexual crimes against minors. IMO his whole regime is build around a concept of white supremacy and corporate greed. In the movie Imperium the FBI infiltrates a skinhead organization who works with other white nationalists to build an underground organization and start a race war. Their goal is to control the government, round up immigrates in mass deportation centres and make America a white “Christian” country. The slogan “America First” was first used in the early 1900s during KKK rallies. Trump has adopted many of their slogans, and Steve Bannon, Musk and Thiel have done Nazi salutes and used phrases condoning their beliefs. The J6 riot was in many ways the first of their war moves on the government and many hate groups were there. Trump used Proud Boys for security at his rallies and immediately released them all from jail, what does that say about him?
