Alabama Senate Runoff Sets Up Barry Moore vs. Jared Hudson After Social Media Reaction Builds Around Outsider Upset
Alabama’s Republican race for an open U.S. Senate seat is headed to a June 16 runoff between U.S. Rep. Barry Moore and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson.
Moore, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump, led the GOP primary but did not win the nomination outright. Hudson narrowly claimed the second runoff spot over Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, according to The Associated Press.

The result quickly gained a sharper political frame online. Hudson posted that his campaign had “made history” and said Washington money would have to work harder to stop his grassroots movement, AP reported. Political observers also focused on the fact that Moore, despite Trump’s support, still faces another round of voting.
The runoff will determine the Republican nominee for the seat being vacated by Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who is running for governor. In deep-red Alabama, that makes the June runoff a major political test for both Moore’s endorsement strength and Hudson’s outsider campaign.
