Altoona GOP Headquarters Spray-Painted “Pedophile Protectors” in Vandalism Attack
ALTOONA, Wis. — The Republican Party of Eau Claire County headquarters was spray-painted with the words “pedophile protectors” and pelted with eggs overnight between Friday and Saturday, confirming a politically charged act of vandalism that police now say they are investigating.
The damage was discovered early Saturday by the building owner, and the chairman of the county party, Fred Kappus, described the incident as deliberate and targeted just days before major elections.
Cameras in the area are being reviewed by Altoona Police, who were called to the scene, said Chief Kelly Bakken, but she would not provide additional details while the investigation continues.
The vandalism comes as political tensions rise locally and nationally, raising questions about whether the act was motivated by partisan conflict or personal grievance. It also follows a reported incident earlier this year in which the Eau Claire office of Congressman Derrick Van Orden was allegedly targeted.
“This is the predictable result of reckless rhetoric from Democrat leaders who repeatedly demonize their political opponents,” Van Orden said in a public statement.
The reward offered by the party underscores concerns about escalating hostility in the midterm season and places pressure on law enforcement to quickly identify those responsible.

Police have asked anyone with information to come forward as cleanup continues and the community digests the meaning behind the defacement.
The next steps in the investigation — including whether charges will be filed — are expected to emerge as the Altoona Police review footage and follow leads.
