Austin Police Kill Suspect After Sixth Street Bar Shooting Injures 14, FBI Flags Terror Clues
A mass shooting in Austin, Texas is now being investigated for a possible terrorism connection, after the FBI said it found “indicators” tied to the suspect and his vehicle.
Authorities say the gunfire erupted outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden on West Sixth Street early Sunday, killing three people total, including the suspected shooter, and sending 14 others to area hospitals. According to KUT and The Associated Press, the suspect drove around the block in an SUV, opened fire, then got out and continued shooting before Austin police officers confronted him and killed him at the scene.
The FBI emphasized it has not determined a motive yet, even as its Joint Terrorism Task Force joined the investigation.
Three patients were listed in critical condition, and officials said the fast response likely prevented more casualties.
