Authorities Release Cartel Leader El Mencho’s Body to Relatives After DNA Match
Mexican authorities have returned the body of cartel boss Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” to his family after confirming the identity through genetic testing, the country’s attorney general’s office said Saturday. The leader of the powerful Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) was killed last week in a military operation in Jalisco that triggered waves of retaliatory violence across multiple states, leaving dozens dead and disrupting daily life.

Mexico’s top prosecutor did not say where the handover occurred or identify who collected the remains. CBS News reported the operation that killed El Mencho involved Mexican security forces and that he died while being flown to Mexico City from the scene. This move follows legal steps initiated by a family representative to claim the body earlier in the week.
