Republicans—yes, the same ones who claim to be the party of “hardworking Americans”—have introduced legislation that would, wait for it… keep your bank fees high. That’s right. While you’re out here busting your ass to make ends meet, they’re working overtime to make sure banks can keep squeezing every last cent out of you.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau—yeah, that agency the GOP loves to hate—was set to cap overdraft fees at $5. Because let’s be real, charging $35 because you’re a few bucks short is straight-up highway robbery. But Republicans? Oh no, they rushed to introduce legislation to block that cap. They want to protect the banks’ “right” to gouge you for every misstep, every bad day, every moment you come up short.
These are the same Republicans who scream about “inflation” and “Bidenomics,” pretending to care about the cost of living. But when it comes time to actually do something to help you keep your money? They side with the banks! Every. Damn. Time.
I mean, think about it—how many times do these right-wing goons pretend to be the “working-class party” while writing laws that screw over working-class people? They’ll tell you government is the problem, but they are literally using the government to make sure big banks can take more of your money.
