Banned, Dragged Out, Tasered: The GOP’s Crackdown on Public Dissent
From Idaho to Georgia, Americans are being removed for speaking out. Here’s what you need to know—and how to protect yourself.
Teresa Borrenpohl didn’t plan on becoming a headline. Like any engaged citizen, she walked into a Coeur d'Alene town hall in March 2025, ready to ask her elected officials hard questions. But when she challenged Republican lawmakers on healthcare and abortion rights, she wasn’t met with answers. She was met with force.
Dragged from her seat by plainclothes men—unidentified, unannounced, and unaccountable—Borrenpohl was hauled out of a public forum for doing what democracy demands: speaking up.
“Town halls are intended to foster conversation and discourse across the aisle, which is why I am deeply alarmed that private security dragged me out of the public meeting for simply exercising my fundamental right of free speech.”
— Teresa Borrenpohl
Her story isn’t unique. In 2025 alone, Americans across the country have been removed, barred, or even tasered—not for violence, but for daring to dissent. Whether it was a woman in Texas booing a congressman, an 80-year-old in Tennessee protesting unjust laws, or voters in Georgia questioning ethics, the message has been chillingly consistent: Speak up, and you’ll be silenced.
This isn’t about maintaining order. It’s not about safety. It’s about power: who holds it, who challenges it, and how far those in charge will go to crush public accountability.

The Flashpoint: Idaho’s Private Security Scandal
It started with a question and ended with handcuffs.
At a Republican town hall in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Borrenpohl stood up to challenge GOP lawmakers on abortion access and healthcare. Instead of answers, she was forcibly dragged out by Lear Asset Management, a private security firm acting under the direction of a plainclothes sheriff.
Borrenpohl’s demands—“Who are you? Are you law enforcement?”—were ignored.
The fallout was swift:
Criminal charges against six individuals.
Lear’s license revoked.
A $5 million lawsuit filed by Borrenpohl.
The Idaho incident exposed the danger of outsourcing political suppression to private security operating without clear accountability.
But Idaho marked a pivot point instead of ending the silencing of dissent.
The Shift: From Private Enforcers to Public Muscle
After Idaho, GOP lawmakers abandoned private security, not out of principle, but out of fear of legal consequences and bad press.
The NRCC began discouraging in-person town halls. Those who continued holding them turned to law enforcement, using the badge of legitimacy to enforce silence.
Across red states, dissent wasn’t debated. It was escorted out, barred at the door, or met with tasers.
2025: A Timeline of Silencing Dissent
When Authority Becomes a Weapon
In some cases, law enforcement acted within the technical scope of their duties. But legality isn’t justice. The pattern of 2025 is clear: authority is being weaponized to silence dissent, not protect democracy.
Blountville, Tennessee: Selective Silence in a Sea of Noise (Feb 28, 2025)
Rep. Diana Harshbarger’s town hall was chaotic, filled with shouting. Yet, only one person was removed. Their crime? Stating, “Intersex people exist,” in response to Harshbarger’s stance on gender.
In a loud room, it wasn’t volume that got you removed; it was speaking truth to power.
Bonham, Texas: Booed Once, Banned for Good (Mar 18, 2025)
When constituents booed Rep. Pat Fallon, law enforcement began removing attendees. After checking on those ejected, Attorney Jessica McDonald was denied reentry… because she booed.
“It is clear that dissent is no longer tolerated in America... To be clear, the Supreme Court has held that what I did is unequivocally protected speech under the First Amendment.”
— Jessica McDonald
Nashville, Tennessee: Protest Meets Handcuffs (Apr 1, 2025)
80-year-old Lynne McFarland stood in peaceful protest in a Senate hearing. Troopers carried her out and charged her.
“That’s okay. I can’t do it.”
— Lynne McFarland, refusing to leave.
Acworth, Georgia: Tasers for Tough Questions (Apr 15, 2025)
At Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s town hall, protesters were tased and arrested.
“I’m glad they got thrown out. That’s exactly what I wanted to see happen.”
— Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene
Know the Difference: Private Security vs. Law Enforcement
Note: Private security laws vary by state, but their authority remains limited in public spaces. Always ask for identification and know your rights.
The Bigger Picture: Controlling the Narrative, Silencing the People
Public forums have become controlled stages where dissent isn’t tolerated. Whether it’s private security, law enforcement, or virtual town halls, the goal is the same: control the narrative and silence the critics.
The danger isn’t just removal; the chilling effect tells others to stay quiet.
Conclusion: Know Your Rights. Protect Your Voice.
Rights only matter if you know them and refuse to surrender them to intimidation.
Hint: Consider screenshotting this image.
In 2025, using your voice shouldn’t be brave. It should be normal.
Let’s fight to keep it that way.
