Blue Origin Moves Closer to West Coast Launches After Space Force Decision
Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket isn’t launching from California yet, but federal officials are moving closer to making it happen.
According to the U.S. Space Force, Jeff Bezos’ company has been selected to enter lease negotiations for a new heavy launch site at Vandenberg Space Force Base, a key West Coast hub for military and satellite missions.
That step could expand U.S. launch capacity at a time when SpaceX dominates the market and global competition is accelerating.

New Glenn, a reusable rocket designed to rival Falcon 9 and Starship, has already completed orbital missions and is being evaluated for national security launches, according to prior reporting.
But the bigger question is economic.
A Vandenberg expansion could bring new jobs, federal contracts, and satellite infrastructure investment to California while giving NASA and the Pentagon more launch options.
For now, the plan is still under negotiation, and the timeline remains unclear.
