BREAKING: Senator Van Hollen Meets with Wrongfully Deported Maryland Resident in El Salvador
Keep following for more information as it becomes available
U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) announced Thursday via his social media that he met with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident deported to El Salvador in March despite a court order blocking his removal. The senator shared a photo of their meeting on social media, stating, "I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love."
Abrego Garcia's deportation has been a point of contention, with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling it unlawful and ordering the Trump administration to facilitate his return. Despite this, the administration has resisted compliance, citing jurisdictional issues. El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele has also refused to release Abrego Garcia, labeling him a gang member—a claim not substantiated in court.
However, President Bukele posted the photo below of Abrego Garcia with Van Hollen tonight.
The outrage works! Keep yelling until he and everyone else denied due process is returned!
