Brett Ratner Epstein Photo Emerges as Melania Documentary Debuts, No Charges
A previously unseen photo of Hollywood director Brett Ratner appeared in the latest tranche of Jeffrey Epstein investigative files as his Melania documentary premiered this week.
The image, released by the U.S. Department of Justice under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, shows Ratner posing intimately with Jean-Luc Brunel, a French model agent and associate of Epstein, though it lacks any date or location information.
The records — part of over 3 million pages, 180,000 images, and 2,000 videos disclosed Jan. 30, 2026 — were made public to comply with a 2025 law signed by President Trump. Among the material are images of numerous public figures, but officials emphasize inclusion in the files does not equate to allegations of wrongdoing.
The timing of the photo’s release has upset some critics, coming as Melania, Ratner’s first major project in years, drew sharp reviews and political chatter.
“Being in these files means the image was collected during the Epstein investigation — it does not by itself imply criminal conduct,” legal analyst Sandra Hertz told AP News.

The surfacing image has renewed online debate over Epstein’s connections to celebrities and power brokers. It also amplified scrutiny of DOJ redactions and calls for broader access to unredacted material.
Advocates for survivors argue the public deserves a full accounting of what the files contain and who appears in them.
The photo’s release may prompt fresh legal and political inquiries into how the files were handled and why certain images were made public.
Observers say the debate over transparency is likely to continue as more researchers sift through the material.
