If he wants to point out the politics of the fires, then we need to point out that the global warming that is responsible for it was denied by Trump and Trump stopped all efforts to avoid the warming and withdrew from the Paris Accords. Yelp, he did this purely for political reasons, just like he is spreading lies now purely for political reasons, nothing to do with facts, the truth or anything to do with solving the problem. It must have been Obama, Clinton, Pilosi, and Biden fault, not to mention Hunter's laptop.
Largely caused by government ineptitude. Period. You get what you vote for. You do. Whether you like it or not.
And real leaders don’t leave town when a potential disaster, forecast by multiple agencies, is breathing down your city’s neck. You cancel your trip. That is what you signed up for. Period. Again.
I grew up in Oregon where wildfires were always a thing in the summertime. Even there, the fires have definitely grown in intensity in recent times. But those fires are pretty much always in the summertime, fire season. This is definitely not fire season, even in the warmer climate of California.
The nearly year round fire season they are now experiencing is terrifying. The videos showing the tremendous force of the Santa Ana winds pushing the fire further really illustrate how different this is.
In 1542, the Spanish explorerJuan Rodríguez Cabrillo called the Los Angeles basin “la Baya de los Fumos,” or the Bay of the Smoke.
The Santa Ana winds have fueled recurring fires since time immemorial. Those fires worked to keep later fires smaller. Proscribed fire is a forest management tool known to the earliest inhabitants.
But in the 1970’s, California started focusing on putting fires out after they started, rather than managing them beforehand. Throughout the 80’s to now, California government water systems have been managed to the benefit of wildlife, rather than humans.
None of this has anything to do with “climate change”. It’s the consequence of feckless policies.
I agree that management is essential and we have failed. However the increased ferocity of the Santa Ana winds and the increasing temperatures are also a factor. We need a comprehensive look at how we manage natural disasters that includes all factors, including the human ones.
Thank you for that information, Harriet. That is unacceptable. Relief and disaster response should not be political opportunities to fundraise for campaigns. This highlights why it is essential to know what one is donating too and how the funds are being used.
Great article

I've never seen anything like it.
We could have done more to mitigate it. I hope we aren't too late to lessen it going forward

Here is a peer reviewed study from the American Meteorological Society that dissects the mechanisms that fuel Santa Ana Winds.
Climate change isn’t among them.
Thank you. I'd be very interested in expanding my understanding
TJ, can you link the study please? I don't see it.

Meant to put it in there. An oversight
Thank you.
Stupid rump thinks we are ALL stupid ! Where is he and what's he doing to help ? I'll wait.....
Interesting question. I have not seen anything about him arriving in California to support efforts, not even for a photo op.
