Canada’s Mark Carney Blasts Prince Andrew, Pushes Removal From Royal Line
Canada’s prime minister is escalating pressure on the British royal family over Prince Andrew’s status in the line of succession.
Prime Minister Mark Carney said Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor should be formally removed from the line of succession following his recent arrest and the controversies surrounding his conduct.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to Tokyo, Carney described Andrew’s actions as “deplorable” and said the situation raises a matter of principle for countries that recognize King Charles III as head of state. According to the Associated Press and other outlets, Andrew was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office linked to allegations he shared confidential information while serving as a UK trade envoy.

Andrew was released under investigation and has denied wrongdoing, and no charges have been filed.
Despite losing his royal titles in 2025 amid renewed scrutiny over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, Andrew still remains eighth in line to the British throne.
Removing him would require legislation in the United Kingdom and approval from all 14 Commonwealth realms, including Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Several Commonwealth leaders have already signaled they would support the move.
