CBS News Staffers Erupt With 95% Strike Pledge Over Streaming Pay Dispute
CBS News is facing a potential walkout from its streaming division staff, raising new concerns about disruption inside the network’s digital operation.
Unionized employees at CBS News 24/7 have pledged to strike, with overwhelming internal support, as contract negotiations with management approach a breaking point.
According to TheWrap, about 95% of roughly 60 Writers Guild of America East members signed a strike pledge, committing to at least a 24-hour walkout if a deal is not reached. The dispute centers on wage increases, overtime protections, union jurisdiction, and remote work policies tied to the streaming unit.
But there is still uncertainty over timing, with reporting indicating the strike requires final approvals and may hinge on last-minute negotiations rather than an immediate shutdown.
“We pledge to support them and will participate at minimum in a 24-hour walkout,” the bargaining unit said in a statement.

The potential strike lands during a period of internal upheaval at CBS News, where leadership changes under Bari Weiss have coincided with layoffs, buyouts, and editorial tensions reported across multiple outlets.
That overlap raises the stakes, as labor disputes inside streaming divisions reflect broader pressure across the media industry, where companies are restructuring while workers push for stronger protections in a digital-first model.
If negotiations fail, the next step would be formal strike authorization and a confirmed walkout timeline, which could disrupt CBS’s 24/7 streaming output.
For now, both sides remain locked in talks with the possibility of escalation still on the table.
