Chicago ICE Protest Case Collapses as DOJ Drops Broadview Six Charges
Federal prosecutors have dropped all remaining charges against four Chicago-area anti-ICE protesters, ending the closely watched Broadview Six case days before trial.
The case stemmed from a 2025 protest outside a federal immigration facility in Broadview, Illinois, during the Trump administration’s Operation Midway Blitz. Prosecutors had accused the protesters of obstructing an immigration vehicle, but the case unraveled after defense attorneys raised concerns about grand jury proceedings and redacted transcripts.

U.S. District Judge April Perry criticized the handling of the case after reviewing allegations that included improper prosecutor communication with a juror and the treatment of dissenting grand jurors. Prosecutors dismissed the charges with prejudice, meaning they cannot bring the same charges again.
The collapse of the case adds to the broader national fight over immigration enforcement, protest rights and the limits of federal prosecution when demonstrations target ICE operations.
