During a Monday broadcast, CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten displayed updated numbers from his aggregate of GOP-only polling. The graphic showed Trump at 87% approval six months ago and 87% today, underscoring the remarkably stable backing he maintains with Republican voters even as broader national approval numbers continue to fluctuate.
Enten noted that Trump’s internal-party approval matches levels typically seen by incumbent presidents during their second terms. By comparison, at this same point in their presidencies, Barack Obama and George W. Bush both stood at 78% approval within their own parties.
The data highlights a central feature of Trump’s political strength: unwavering Republican loyalty that remains largely resistant to outside events, controversies, or policy shifts.
CNN emphasized that these figures reflect Republican voters only, not the national electorate, where Trump’s approval and favorability numbers are significantly lower.
