Colony Ridge Sues Alex Jones as Defamation Case Draws Online Reaction
A Houston-area developer is suing Alex Jones for defamation, adding a new legal fight to one of Texas’ most politically charged housing controversies.
The lawsuit was filed in Liberty County by Colony Ridge, the developer behind six subdivisions near Cleveland, Texas. ABC13 reported that the suit seeks at least $10 million from Jones, Pete Chambers and Free Speech Systems over statements made in a social media video earlier this year.
According to reports on the lawsuit, Colony Ridge alleges the defendants falsely tied the development to Mexican drug cartels, fraud and undocumented immigration. Jones and the other defendants have not been found liable in the new case, and the allegations still have to be tested in court.
The lawsuit is already drawing attention online.
ABC13 posts about the filing circulated on X, while Texas journalists and political accounts amplified the case as both a defamation story and a new chapter in the Colony Ridge fight. Robert Downen, a Texas reporter, noted the irony of Colony Ridge suing after recent settlements involving DOJ and Texas, while Texas Scorecard framed the case around Jones, Pete Chambers and Colony Ridge’s immigration controversy.

The reaction has not been one-sided. A public Facebook thread on ABC13’s story included readers openly questioning Colony Ridge’s position and repeating skepticism about the lawsuit, while Reddit’s Knowledge Fight community, which tracks Jones and Infowars, treated the case as another legal threat for Jones.
Colony Ridge has been a target of conservative immigration claims for years, but the development has also faced official scrutiny. The Justice Department previously said Colony Ridge agreed to a $68 million settlement resolving allegations involving predatory land sales and lending practices, while the company denied wrongdoing.
For Jones, the new case lands against the backdrop of much larger defamation battles. He remains tied to major Sandy Hook judgments and continuing fights over Infowars-related assets.
The immediate legal consequence is narrow but important: Colony Ridge must prove the challenged statements were false, defamatory and damaging. The broader public consequence is larger: the case turns a viral political claim about a Texas development into a courtroom fight over what media figures can say, promote and repeat online.
