Congress Presses Rubio as Iran War Enters Fourth Month
Secretary of State Marco Rubio faced some of his toughest public questioning yet Tuesday as lawmakers demanded answers about the Trump administration’s strategy in the Iran war, now entering its fourth month.
Appearing before Congress for the first time since the conflict began, Rubio defended the administration’s approach while arguing that Iran has shown new willingness to discuss parts of its nuclear program. He said sanctions relief would remain tied to nuclear concessions and not simply to reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Lawmakers raised concerns about the war’s objectives, rising costs, troop safety, and the administration’s long-term strategy. Some Republicans have also expressed concerns about continuing military involvement without stronger congressional backing.

The hearing comes after new military exchanges between the United States and Iran, including U.S. strikes on Iranian military sites and Iranian missile attacks targeting locations housing American forces in Kuwait.
The testimony could become a key moment in determining whether political support for the war remains intact as fighting and diplomatic negotiations continue.
