Delcy Rodríguez Reportedly in Russia Amid Venezuela Leadership Crisis, Reuters Says
Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, considered the most likely successor to President Nicolás Maduro, is possibly in Russia, four sources told Reuters but conflicting reports have raised questions about her actual whereabouts.
The claim surfaced as Venezuela reels from a dramatic U.S. operation that captured Maduro, thrusting the country into political uncertainty and heightening stakes for leadership succession.
According to Reuters, four people familiar with Rodríguez’s movements said she flew to Moscow hours after Maduro’s capture by U.S. forces.
However, Russia’s foreign ministry denied the Venezuelan vice president is in the country, calling such reports “fake news,” and some state-aligned Venezuelan media suggested she remains in Caracas.

“I am working to ensure continuity of governance in Venezuela,” Rodríguez said in a brief message shared by her office, without specifying her location.
The dispute matters because control of Venezuela’s presidency will shape how governments around the world respond to the power vacuum left by Maduro’s ouster.
Venezuela’s Supreme Court has already named Rodríguez interim president, but uncertainty about her position and movements adds pressure on domestic and international actors.
As global powers watch closely, clarifying where Rodríguez actually is could influence diplomatic recognition and regional stability.
