Democrats Demand Immediate Unredacted Access to 3M+ Epstein Files From DOJ
House Judiciary Committee Democrats are demanding urgent, unredacted access to the full body of files related to the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein’s federal investigation, asserting the latest DOJ document release falls short of legal requirements.
The request comes as the Department of Justice has poured out the largest tranche of Epstein-related material to date but has drawn bipartisan ire for redactions and delays under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
According to CBS News, committee Democrats led by Ranking Member Rep. Jamie Raskin wrote to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche seeking “immediate arrangements” that would allow them to examine the complete files in unredacted form — a step they say is needed to ensure compliance with federal law.
The DOJ’s ongoing release has now surpassed 3 million pages of records and includes thousands of videos and photos from the long-running criminal probes into Epstein, who died in federal custody in 2019.
But Republicans, survivors, and transparency advocates have blasted the effort as incomplete, arguing critical content remains obscure and that statutory deadlines were missed.

“It’s vital that Congress sees the full, unredacted records so the public can know the whole truth,” said a committee spokesperson.
The battle over transparency matters because Epstein’s case has immense public interest, with prior disclosures hinting at ties between Epstein and globally prominent figures even if official charges haven’t followed.
Next up, the Judiciary Committee is preparing potential hearings and follow-up demands as it assesses the redactions, with possible legal action if the DOJ refuses full access.
The outcome will shape ongoing congressional oversight and could influence future releases under the transparency law.
