“DEPART NOW”: Americans Blocked From Flying Home as Iran Conflict Closes Airspace
As U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran escalate into broader Middle East conflict, Americans are finding it increasingly hard to get home. According to AP and ABC News, tens of thousands of travelers in the region are stranded after major airlines canceled flights and Gulf airspace closures disrupted travel.
The U.S. State Department has issued an urgent warning for U.S. citizens in more than a dozen countries — including Iraq, Israel, Jordan and the UAE — to “DEPART NOW” using any available commercial transportation.
But options are limited. Many flights out of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and other hubs remain suspended amid safety concerns and airspace restrictions, leaving Americans stuck in place or having to seek alternate overland routes, embassy advisories show.
Travelers told ABC News their flights have been canceled with little notice, and some are regrouping in hotels while waiting for options to open.
