Disney World Cast Member Hurt Stopping 400-lb Boulder at Indiana Jones Show
A Disney World cast member was injured Tuesday night after a 400-pound prop boulder rolled off its track and toward seated spectators during the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida, according to Disney and The Associated Press. The worker intervened to keep the prop from hitting guests, a move Disney says helped avert injuries but left the employee hurt.
The incident has raised questions about safety procedures in live stunt performances and triggered changes to how the show runs this week. Video shared widely on social media captured the prop bouncing erratically before the cast member stepped in.
Disney confirmed that the boulder came off its intended track and began rolling toward audience members during a staged sequence, prompting a cast member to attempt to halt it. Another cast member managed to stop the prop before it reached spectators, and Disney said no guests were injured.
After the accident, one scheduled performance was canceled and following shows have omitted the boulder sequence while Disney’s safety team reviews the incident. Disney officials would not disclose specifics about the injured worker’s condition, citing privacy, but said the employee is recovering.

“We’re focused on supporting our cast member, who is recovering. Safety is at the heart of what we do…” a Disney spokesperson said.
This stunt show, based on the Raiders of the Lost Ark film and in operation since 1989, has long incorporated live action and effects, but malfunctions of this scale are rare.
Disney’s ongoing review will determine why the prop deviated from its track and how future performances can prevent similar risks. Modified shows are expected to continue through the review period.
