According to Reuters and the Associated Press, a group calling itself Handala Hack Team posted photos, emails, and documents allegedly taken from Patel’s account, including personal images and a resume. A Justice Department official confirmed the email was compromised and said the released material appears authentic.

The tension centers on what may still be hidden. While some of the exposed content appears to be years old, analysts warn these groups often exaggerate their claims, and the full scope of the breach hasn’t been independently verified.

Axios reported the hackers may be acting in retaliation after U.S. authorities seized infrastructure tied to Iranian cyber operations, raising the stakes beyond a single leak.
