DOJ Ordered to Stop Pressuring Facebook and Apple Over ICE-Tracking Content
A federal judge has barred the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security from pressuring Facebook and Apple to remove ICE-monitoring apps and social media groups, escalating a legal fight over immigration enforcement and online speech.
U.S. District Judge Jorge L. Alonso granted a preliminary injunction in a case brought by Kassandra “Kae” Rosado, who ran the “ICE Sightings – Chicagoland” Facebook group, and Kreisau Group, creator of the Eyes Up app. The plaintiffs argued federal officials coerced platforms into suppressing tools used to document or share information about ICE activity.

The ruling does not force Facebook or Apple to host the tools. It limits what federal officials can do: DOJ and DHS cannot demand, pressure, or coerce the companies into suppressing the plaintiffs’ speech.
The case now sits at the center of a broader fight over immigration enforcement, officer safety, public recording of law enforcement, and First Amendment limits on government pressure.
