Ed Gallrein Beats Thomas Massie in Kentucky Primary After Trump Endorsement
Rep. Thomas Massie is warning Republicans that Donald Trump’s campaign to defeat internal critics could carry a cost in the 2026 midterms, days after Massie lost his Kentucky Republican primary to Trump-backed Ed Gallrein.
Unofficial Kentucky results show Gallrein defeating Massie 55% to 45% in the GOP primary for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District. Massie, who broke with Trump over government spending, military action involving Iran, and the release of Jeffrey Epstein-related files, told NBC’s Meet the Press that Trump has alienated parts of the coalition that helped Republicans win in 2024.
Trump and his allies framed the result as proof of the president’s power inside the GOP. Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL, ran as a loyal supporter of Trump’s agenda and is favored in the deeply Republican district.
