EU, Canada and UK Face New Trump Tariffs Under Forced Labor Proposal
The Trump administration is proposing new tariffs on imports from roughly 60 countries, arguing those governments have failed to effectively stop goods produced with forced labor from entering global supply chains.
The proposal would impose duties of 10% to 12.5% on products from allies and competitors alike, including Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom, China, India, and Japan.
The move comes after courts weakened several previous Trump tariff authorities, prompting officials to pursue a different legal pathway through Section 301 investigations.

Foreign governments have already criticized the proposal, with some warning it could disrupt trade relationships and increase costs for businesses.
If implemented, the tariffs could affect supply chains, import prices, and future trade negotiations while becoming one of the administration’s most significant economic policy battles of the year.
