Wow, that's so true. I hope everyone hears and understands that. Because it really is more important to join forces than to insist on being right.

You are absolutely correct. We should be able to walk the talk. Those who are realizing, or at least beginning to realize the mistake they made don't need to have it rubbed in their faces...that move only makes them think they are screwed anyway they why they should bother trying. They've already accomplished a lot by admitting, even if it is only to themselves, that they were wrong.

I realized this myself a while ago; that we NEED to find common ground by recognizing our common humanity. I realized that everyone who voted for Trump didn't necessarily know all that he would do!

Not everybody is a politics junkie!

They have jobs, maybe they work long hours, and spend their free time with their family, not reading a newspaper!

We need to have compassion, always. And respect.

The economy is our common ground.

I’m sympathetic to what is here. I have to point out, tho’, that a number of sociological studies have shown that people deeply dyed in a set way of thinking don’t tend to change, no matter what happens.

I think our primary target needs to be those “undecideds” in the middle who swing first this way and then that depending who gets there first with the most triggering message. We need to show them, in as permanent way we can, the direct harm now being done. We need to figure out a way of more permanently moving them toward the light.

The establishment Democratic Party message is simply not going to do that.

This might be one of the most important things I've read since the election. What a reminder to Americans to hold onto what makes them whole in a democracy that is at risk. At the core is EMPATHY even when its really hard. Great job

I did all those things the first time. I don't believe his cult will change . As soon as things go their way again...they will be followers again.

My family is MAGA. Do I love them less? Of course not. I wait for them to become aware of the illusionary screen that covers Trump and his allies.

Trump is the figurehead. Others worked tirelessly for years to plan the take down of our government, to re-make it into for their benefit alone. If it’s not too late, we must be the revolutionaries to create new structures for all to benefit. Those treasonous to dismantle our nation must come to justice. Welcome our families, our traumatized immigrants, our newly awakened neighbors to our hearts and our nation built in the image of liberty for all.

The truth is this is the second time this has happened. And the second time the radicals (no matter their political affiliation) have yet to admit they were either wrong or sorry. The hand of cooperation has been extended twice and for the second time it has been snubbed. The olive branch has been extended and twice it has been thrown on the ground. How about, if you’re not happy with Democracy as we know it and you’re not willing to work with those who are at least trying to make things better for ALL Americans, why don’t you take a self deportation. Hell, your neighbor that has extended the olive branch might even help you pack if you ask nicely. This is like the school yard bully after kicking dirt in your face wants to be your best friend. They have to prove themselves now. They want to play kick the beehive, they need to endure retribution of their own making. You follow a man that has ordered the death of people on the high seas without proof of wrongdoing. He is a murderer and his followers are accomplices to that crime. This is not making America Great this is destroying all that has been our legacy.

I would agree with you if it weren’t for the unmitigated vileness of Trump supporters towards so many different people on the other side for so many years - especially the lead up to and after the election (can you believe it’s only been 9 months?)

The hatred, the cheering over the cold blooded MURDERS of Democratic leaders, the ridicule towards the families of children slaughtered in gun violence - the list goes on ad infinitum.

It’s not like Trump supporters didn’t have the facts presented to them elementary school style before the election. I refuse to believe that half of America consists of stupid people. They are just staggeringly gullible , racist and inflexible in regard to basic facts - even when laid out before them.

Even now, when man-in-street type interviews are given to Trumps supporters and they are asked questions regarding different instances of inappropriate behavior or actual quotes said by, supposedly, Joe Biden they gnash their teeth and practically spit their answers “Horrible man - should be in jail.”Then, when told “Oh wait, I’m sorry, that was actually President Trump who said that” they just become tongue-tied, get flustered and walk away…

Sorry that this was such a long winded way of saying, actually, no. I don’t care that they are just now seeing the destructive consequences of their actions. And when they go to their local food bank they need to get down on their knees and kiss the hand of the (possibly brown) person saving their family’s life and be grateful that they aren’t asked who they voted for because if the shoe were on the other foot you KNOW they would be…

I'm merely saying that what we see in the media isn't everyone! I KNOW dozens of Democrats who aren't aware of everything that's going on. Ordinary people who have jobs and families, who don't have time or the attention span to follow politics as closely as we do.

We gain nothing by butting heads with the MAGATS. But we may be able to clarify things for decent people who haven't heard our side.

At this point if there are Democrats who voted for Trump they are beyond salvation. As far as Maggats go, I’m not going to waste a single breath trying to convince them of anything. The Maggat “Come to Jesus” is beginning, starting with the farmers who voted for him and people receiving benefits who voted for him and the ones seeing their insurance rates skyrocket who voted for him… and on and on.

They’re going to have to realize on their own how badly they messed up by voting for that hideosity of a man. They have to lay in the bed of their own making and I truly don’t care to hear their crying.

Boo hoo

Fuck you

Seriously

There is a certain segment of true believers who will never feel or think any differently. Every demographic has a certain percentage of people who are just terrible humans. However, for those who are beginning to be concerned — even if only because it is just now impacting them— I would argue that they might be reachable. And in a battle for the soul of the country, we will need soldiers, even those we find to be detestable. People (even us) often live in echo chambers. While we may have screamed it from the rooftops, that doesn’t mean they heard it. We’ve seen the mass media strategically ignore, skew, or frame stories in ways that lose or subvert nuance or meaning, and we know it is most insidious in certain partisan spaces.

I respect your right to feel the way you do, and I’ll fight for this country shoulder to shoulder with you. For me, however, I believe, even in my deeply jaded and often angry heart, that most people are redeemable and can grow and learn with exposure, time, and effort. I’ve held opinions I no longer hold, I’ve done things I felt justified and perhaps even proud of at the time that I now regret. And for me, however naive, I believe most people are capable of growth, and, most importantly, that their children are worthy of food, heat, dignity, and hope. No one gets to choose their family, and I cannot personally feel good about letting someone suffer due to the decisions of others.

If I believed that a large segment of this population was unredeemable and incapable of basic humanity, I do not know that I’d bother to fight to save this nation. What would be the point? While in my darkest moments (and with my dark sense of humor), I may joke that I’m team apocalypse or asteroid, the truth is, I do believe that while humanity may be deeply flawed, soaked in human frailty, and often encumbered by deeply ingrained primitive tendencies, we are capable of more, of better, of evolution into a better version of ourselves when given the resources and opportunity.

Mainly, however, if a 2A bro is ready to use his stockpile to help us save democracy, I’m not going to say no.
