FBI Claims It Foiled Alleged New Year’s Eve Bomb Plot in Los Angeles
Federal authorities say they have disrupted an alleged New Year’s Eve bombing plot targeting multiple locations in the Los Angeles area, arresting four individuals in California and a fifth suspect in Louisiana.
According to the Department of Justice and the FBI, the suspects were taken into custody following an investigation into what officials described as a “credible and imminent” threat involving coordinated attacks using improvised explosive devices. Four suspects were arrested in Lucerne Valley, a remote desert area east of Los Angeles, while a fifth individual was later arrested in New Orleans in connection with a related plot.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi said the suspects were allegedly preparing attacks set to begin on New Year’s Eve and praised law enforcement for preventing what she called a “massive and horrific terror plot.” Authorities say the alleged plan targeted five locations across Los Angeles and Orange County, including ICE agents and government-related sites.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the individuals allegedly self-identified as members of a radical offshoot of the Turtle Island Liberation Front, which officials describe as an extremist group motivated by pro-Palestinian, anti-government, anti-law-enforcement, and anti-capitalist ideology. Investigators say the suspects were allegedly testing or preparing explosive devices at the time of their arrests.
Charges announced include conspiracy and possession of unregistered destructive devices. Officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and warned that additional details may emerge as court proceedings begin.
News of the arrests spread rapidly on social media, where many users praised federal authorities for stopping the alleged plot and expressed relief that the attacks were prevented. Law enforcement agencies credited interagency cooperation for disrupting the threat before any injuries occurred.
The FBI’s Los Angeles field office is expected to provide further updates during a scheduled press conference later today.
This is a developing story.
