FBI Shooting Ends Bakersfield Hostage Crisis at Chase Bank Building, All Hostages Rescued
A hostage situation that shut down part of downtown Bakersfield ended early Wednesday after an FBI-involved shooting left the suspect dead and all hostages safe, according to authorities.
The incident began Tuesday afternoon when Bakersfield police responded to a reported bomb threat at a building housing a Chase Bank branch near Chester Avenue and 17th Street. Investigators said a man barricaded himself inside with several hostages, prompting a large-scale response involving SWAT teams, bomb technicians, crisis negotiators, and federal agents.
Authorities successfully negotiated the release of two hostages during the standoff. The remaining hostages were freed after the confrontation ended during an officer-involved shooting involving FBI personnel.
