Federal Judge Halts VOA Restructuring After Kari Lake Appointment Ruled Illegal
A federal judge has blocked a major leadership shakeup involving Kari Lake and the federal agency that oversees Voice of America.
The ruling is now forcing the government to reverse layoffs tied to the move.
According to reporting from Straight Arrow News and other outlets, U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth ruled that Lake’s appointment to oversee the U.S. Agency for Global Media was not legally valid under the agency’s governing structure.
The decision means personnel changes and layoffs connected to the restructuring must be reversed.

The dispute centers on whether the appointment followed the legal process required for leadership roles inside the federally funded international media agency, which oversees outlets including Voice of America.
According to the ruling, the restructuring tied to the appointment could not proceed if the leadership change itself was invalid.
The decision raises new questions about the agency’s leadership and whether the administration will challenge the ruling in federal appeals court.
For now, the court order pauses the shakeup and reinstates protections for affected staff.
