Federal Judge Moves to Remove Ten Commandments Monument at Arkansas Capitol
A federal judge has ordered the Ten Commandments monument removed from the Arkansas State Capitol, escalating a growing legal fight over religion in public spaces.
According to Axios, U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker ruled the display violates the Constitution, setting up a direct clash with state officials who approved the monument in 2015.
The decision comes amid a wave of similar rulings. Just weeks earlier, another federal judge blocked Arkansas from requiring Ten Commandments displays in public school classrooms.
Supporters argue the monument reflects historical values, while challengers say it crosses a constitutional line separating church and state.
The order isn’t taking effect yet. The judge paused enforcement while Arkansas appeals, meaning the monument will remain in place for now.
The case also diverges from a prior Supreme Court ruling that allowed a similar monument in Texas, raising new legal questions.
With multiple rulings stacking up, the issue appears headed for a broader appellate fight and possibly the Supreme Court.
