Federal Prosecutors Surge Immigration Charges in Southern Texas as Enforcement Intensifies
Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of Texas filed 473 new immigration-related federal cases from Feb. 20–26 as part of an ongoing enforcement surge, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Friday.
Of those charged, 202 face illegal entry complaints, 244 are charged with felony reentry after removal, and 23 individuals are charged with human smuggling, many with prior felony convictions in narcotics, violent crime, and other offenses, officials said.
Several defendants with prior criminal histories were found in South Texas without authorization, including individuals previously removed from the U.S. and later taken into custody again.
The enforcement actions are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative focused on border security and immigration crime prosecutions, involving ICE, Border Patrol, FBI, and other federal partners.
Sentencings tied to illegal reentry and other federal crimes were also announced.
