Flynn posted on X on Nov. 30: “The CIA must b shut down! @realDonaldTrump.”
In a second post the same day, he wrote: “The CIA must stop driving U.S. foreign and domestic policy… Shut it down.”
The comments were paired with a clip from War Room with Steve Bannon, where Flynn argued that the CIA has accumulated outsized influence over national-security decisions. His posts also amplified a conspiracy-oriented claim from an account known as “GhostEzra,” which accused the CIA of running “black budget” operations — assertions that have not been substantiated by any credible reporting.
What’s Confirmed
• Flynn made both statements publicly on his verified account.
• The posts specifically tagged Trump, urging him to dismantle the agency.
• Flynn framed his argument around presidential authority, saying the CIA should not be shaping U.S. policy.
• No U.S. official or agency has indicated that shutting down the CIA is under consideration.
The CIA is one of the United States’ primary intelligence agencies, responsible for foreign intelligence, covert operations, and counterterrorism work. Calls to dismantle it are rare from former senior national-security officials and inject new tensions into ongoing debates about intelligence power and presidential control.
As of publication, neither the CIA nor the White House has issued a response to Flynn’s statements. His posts have generated widespread engagement on X, drawing both support and sharp criticism as debates continue over the future role of the intelligence community.
