Fox Host Bails After Talarico Demands GOP Explain Why They “Need to Rig the Maps”
Texas Democratic Rep. James Talarico pressed Fox News host Will Cain over Republican redistricting efforts during a tense on-air interview this week, arguing the GOP is redrawing maps because its policies “aren’t as popular as they claim.” The exchange ended abruptly as Cain said he was “getting wrapped on time.”

Talarico, who has become a frequent critic of Texas Republicans on voting and democracy issues, pointed to a past U.S. House vote on a Democratic-backed election reform bill that included a nationwide ban on mid-decade gerrymandering. “Democrats voted for a ban. Zero Republicans did,” he said, challenging the idea that the GOP supports fair maps. The bill passed the House but never became law.
Cain pushed back, asking which legislation Talarico was referring to before moving the segment along. When Talarico pressed again — asking why Republicans need new maps “if their policies are so popular” — Cain cut in to note the show was out of time. The video spread quickly online as Democratic groups highlighted the moment Cain appeared to sidestep the question.
Cain later defended the segment on social media, saying he gave Talarico a full interview and that the wrap-up was standard time management, not an attempt to avoid the redistricting exchange. The dust-up comes as Texas Republicans advance new congressional maps ahead of the 2026 cycle, a move Democrats argue is designed to insulate the GOP from shifting voter demographics.
