When the story first broke that former ICE Director Tom Homan had been caught in a Justice Department sting operation, Fox News didn’t pause to ask why.
They didn’t report what investigators found, or how the operation worked. They just jumped straight to the script: “Biden’s DOJ set him up.”
But here’s what they left out — the part that actually matters.
What Really Happened
According to the federal filings and corroborating reports, the DOJ had been tracking a network of lobbyists offering illegal “consulting fees” to former immigration and homeland security officials in exchange for policy access and post-service influence.
Homan, who’d been speaking openly about joining a private security firm advising state governments on “border enforcement contracts,” was one of several former Trump officials approached by undercover agents posing as lobbyists.
The agents offered what they called “transition assistance packages” — essentially bundles of cash and consulting retainers disguised as “policy partnerships.”
Homan took the meeting.
He didn’t just take the meeting — he agreed to accept the funds without full disclosure and failed to report the income on required ethics forms.
That’s how he got caught.
It wasn’t a random “Biden setup.” It was an ethics enforcement operation targeting a pattern of corruption among former senior officials.
The Trap That Wasn’t
Fox calls it a “sting” as if it were some political ambush. But that’s what a sting is supposed to be — an operation to expose wrongdoing.
The only reason it worked is because Homan played along.
This wasn’t Biden’s personal vendetta. It was the same kind of anti-corruption monitoring used by both Republican and Democratic administrations for decades.
Every administration runs integrity checks on outgoing officials who might try to cash in their access for profit.
When Homan fell for the bait, the right-wing media didn’t see a breach of ethics — they saw an opportunity.
How Fox Flipped the Script
Within hours, Fox was on air spinning the story backwards. The sting wasn’t about corruption anymore; it was about persecution.
They told viewers that Biden’s DOJ “targeted patriots.”
That “bags of cash” were being “thrown at incoming Trump officials” to make them look dirty.
They never mentioned that Homan wasn’t incoming — he was already shopping his influence in the private sector.
They never said that the operation was run by a bipartisan DOJ ethics unit, not Biden’s political staff.
And they certainly didn’t tell you that Homan was one of several officials flagged for similar behavior.
Fox took a legitimate accountability case and reframed it as political revenge.
The Outrage Machine at Work
The pattern is familiar:
Create a villain — the “Biden DOJ.”
Create a victim — a loyal Trump ally “set up by the system.”
Erase the facts — so the story fits the pre-built persecution narrative.
It’s not about what happened. It’s about how fast the lie can travel before the truth catches up.
By the time the real details surfaced — that Homan agreed to a cash-for-access deal with undercover agents — the audience had already been programmed to see him as a hero under attack.
Fox doesn’t defend the rule of law; it defends the illusion that only their side gets punished.
The Real Story Fox Won’t Touch
The sting didn’t start with Biden. It started with a series of ethics referrals filed after multiple ex-officials began selling access to state contracts tied to immigration enforcement and border security.
DOJ agents followed the money, set up a controlled offer, and watched who took it.
Most walked away.
Homan didn’t.
That’s not a setup — that’s a choice.
And instead of owning it, Fox turned it into a political weapon.
The Cost of the Lie
The price of Fox’s narrative isn’t measured in ratings; it’s measured in public trust.
Every time they turn an accountability story into an “attack on conservatives,” fewer people believe in oversight at all.
Every time they defend the indefensible, they teach their viewers that corruption is fine — as long as it’s your team doing it.
Tom Homan didn’t need to be set up.
He needed to be stopped.
And Fox needed him to be a martyr.
Truth Still Matters
The Biden administration didn’t frame Tom Homan — he framed himself.
The only conspiracy here is the one that keeps the audience angry, afraid, and loyal.
That’s not journalism. That’s manipulation.
And the only way to fight it is with facts that don’t flinch.
