Gaza Officials Accuse Israel After Student Shot Dead “In Front of Classmates”
A 9-year-old student was shot and killed inside a Gaza classroom, raising new questions about civilian safety during an active ceasefire.
According to Reuters and Gaza’s education ministry, the girl, identified as Ritaj Rihan, was hit by a bullet while attending class in a tent school in Beit Lahiya. Officials said she was killed “in front of her classmates,” leaving other children severely traumatized.
The incident comes as violence continues despite a ceasefire that was meant to reduce hostilities. Reuters previously reported that more than 700 Palestinians have been killed since the agreement began, with both Israel and Hamas accusing each other of violations.

There has been no immediate comment from the Israeli military on the shooting, leaving key details unresolved, including whether the fire was targeted or incidental.
The killing adds to growing concerns over conditions in Gaza, where many schools operate in temporary shelters and remain exposed to ongoing military activity.
