GKN Aerospace Chemical Tank Emergency Forces Evacuations in Orange County
A chemical tank emergency in Garden Grove has forced evacuation orders affecting roughly 40,000 people across parts of Orange County as crews work to prevent a possible spill or explosion.
The incident involves a tank at a GKN Aerospace facility containing methyl methacrylate, a flammable chemical used in plastics and manufacturing. Fire officials said the tank could fail and spill an estimated 6,000 to 7,000 gallons or enter thermal runaway and explode, affecting nearby tanks.

Evacuations have affected Garden Grove and nearby communities including Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress, Stanton and Westminster. Officials have said there was no active gas plume at the time of reported updates, but residents were told to leave because of the risk if the tank fails.
Health officials warn methyl methacrylate exposure can irritate the eyes, skin, nose, throat and respiratory system.
