GM Faces Safety Recall After Faulty Camera Housing Triggers 270K Vehicle Alert
General Motors is recalling more than 270,000 vehicles, but the bigger concern is how many drivers may not realize they’re affected yet.
According to the Associated Press and NHTSA filings, the recall targets 2023–2025 Chevrolet Malibu sedans due to rearview cameras that can display blank or distorted images. That failure reduces visibility behind the car and increases crash risk.
The issue traces back to a manufacturing flaw in the camera housing, where a weak adhesive bond can allow moisture to seep in. GM said only a small percentage of vehicles are expected to have the defect, but all affected units are being recalled as a precaution.

No crashes or injuries have been reported so far, but regulators flagged the defect as a safety concern.
GM says dealerships will replace the cameras at no cost, with owner notification letters expected to begin May 18. Drivers can also check their VIN through NHTSA or contact Chevrolet directly to confirm if their vehicle is included.
