While America suffers through another shutdown, Republicans are too busy protecting their own secrets to do their damn jobs.
The government is closed again — and this time, it’s not because of a budget fight, or some grand principle, or even incompetence.
It’s because the Republican Party is using the American people as leverage to keep the Epstein files buried.
Let that sink in.
They’ve shut down the lights in Congress, delayed swearing in a new member, and brought the country to a standstill — all to stall the release of 34,000 pages of records that could expose who knew what, and when.
This isn’t governance.
This is self-preservation disguised as gridlock.
“We’ll Get Back to Work When the Lights Turn Back On”
At one point in the transcript, a Republican congressman actually says this:
“We’re going to do that as soon as we get back to work, but we need the lights turned back on.”
Translation: We could do our jobs, but we’d rather blame someone else while we sit in the dark.
These people love to talk about accountability when it’s directed at the poor, or at working families, or at immigrants.
But when it’s time to hold themselves accountable — when the word “Epstein” shows up in the same sentence as “Oversight Committee” — suddenly, they’re allergic to daylight.
They can find time to ban books, police a women’s body, and shut down healthcare funding, but not to swear in a new member of Congress or keep the government functioning.
Why? Because doing so would give that new member access to the committees working on the Epstein files.
And that’s what they really fear — oversight that includes someone who might actually tell the truth.
“It Has Nothing to Do With Epstein” — Sure It Doesn’t
When pressed directly, the GOP spokesperson snapped:
“It has nothing to do with Epstein. The House Oversight Committee is working on the Epstein files right now, releasing 34,000 pages.”
That’s rich.
If it really had “nothing to do with Epstein,” why bring it up?
Why mention the committee and the 34,000 pages unprompted?
Because they’re terrified. Because the cover-up is cracking.
These people have been running the same playbook for years — distract, delay, deny.
But now the receipts are piling up. And when you hear panic in their voices, that’s the sound of power realizing it’s cornered.
The GOP’s Real Agenda: Delay and Distract
This shutdown isn’t about policy. It’s about stalling.
Republicans are playing a game of “red herrings and distractions,” as the transcript itself says.
They want the public looking anywhere except where the bodies are buried — literally and figuratively.
Because the Epstein files don’t just threaten reputations. They threaten power structures.
The names in those files are the same names sitting on congressional committees, writing laws, and showing up on Fox News pretending to defend “family values.”
And as long as the lights are off in Congress, as long as they can keep the machinery of government frozen, they can keep those files out of public view.
Holding Power Hostage
Let’s be honest — this isn’t a government shutdown. It’s a hostage situation.
The American people are the hostages.
The ransom is silence.
Millions of workers won’t get paid. Veterans’ benefits are frozen. Federal programs are paralyzed.
And for what? To protect a handful of powerful men from being named in documents that should’ve been public years ago.
Every hour Congress stays dark, democracy gets dimmer.
And the Republicans holding the switch know it.
Enough Excuses. Do Your Damn Jobs.
One lawmaker in the transcript says, almost proudly:
“We’re happy she got elected. She’s filling her father’s seat… We’ll swear her in when we get back to work.”
That’s the rot in one sentence.
They don’t care about the people who elected her. They don’t care about the 750,000 constituents waiting for representation.
They care about protecting their own.
Every minute they delay is another minute they get to hide.
And if history has taught us anything, it’s that cover-ups only work when people stop paying attention.
So don’t.
Don’t look away. Don’t get numb. Don’t let them turn off the lights without asking what’s in the dark.
Because the truth about Epstein — and who enabled him — won’t stay buried forever.
