GOP Lawmakers Demand Tony Gonzales Resign Over Aide Text Scandal
Republican pressure is mounting on Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales after allegations surfaced that he had an inappropriate relationship with a former aide. Several GOP lawmakers are now publicly calling for his resignation.
The controversy escalated after text messages were released that appear to show Gonzales requesting explicit photos and sending suggestive messages to Regina Santos-Aviles, a former staffer, according to ABC News.
NOTUS first reported that Reps. Lauren Boebert, Nancy Mace, Anna Paulina Luna and Texas Rep. Brandon Gill urged Gonzales to resign or drop his reelection bid.
Santos-Aviles died by suicide in September 2025, ABC News reported. Her widower later shared the messages publicly, raising questions about conduct and workplace boundaries in Congress.

“It would serve the district best for him to step down,” Rep. Lauren Boebert said, according to reporting by NOTUS.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has declined to join those calls, telling reporters it is too early to reach conclusions and that the matter should be reviewed carefully, according to ABC News and KSAT.
The episode has introduced visible division within the GOP conference and could affect Gonzales’ standing in an already competitive political environment in Texas.
No formal House Ethics Committee findings have been announced.
For now, Gonzales has not indicated he plans to resign, leaving the dispute unresolved as pressure continues to build.
