GOP Rep Says Americans Who “Get in the Way” of ICE May End Up Like Woman Shot in Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS — Florida Republican Rep. Randy Fine sparked widespread backlash Thursday after commenting on the fatal shooting of a Minneapolis woman by a federal immigration agent, suggesting the death was the result of interfering with government enforcement actions.
Fine made the remarks one day after Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during a large-scale federal immigration operation in south Minneapolis. In a clip from a television news segment that circulated widely on social media, Fine described federal immigration enforcement as an effort to “repel a foreign invasion” and said Americans who interfere could “end up just like that lady did yesterday.” He added that he had no sympathy for people who impede federal agents.
Federal officials, including the Department of Homeland Security, say the ICE agent fired in self-defense after Good allegedly attempted to strike officers with her vehicle, describing it as having been “weaponized.” President Donald Trump echoed that account, characterizing the shooting as justified.

Minnesota state and local leaders sharply disputed the federal narrative. Gov. Tim Walz warned residents not to accept what he described as federal propaganda, while Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said early evidence does not support claims that Good attempted to harm agents.
Authorities said Good was not the target of the enforcement operation. Family members and community advocates described her as an innocent bystander.
Fine’s comments fueled intense reaction online, drawing praise from supporters of aggressive immigration enforcement and condemnation from critics who said the remarks appeared to justify civilian deaths. Protests continued in Minneapolis as the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
