Graham Rejects Calls for U.S. Strategy on Iran’s Future: “Not His Job”
Sen. Lindsey Graham defended the Trump administration’s approach to Iran on NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday, insisting the U.S. doesn’t need a detailed plan for what comes after recent strikes that reportedly killed Iran’s supreme leader. According to The Independent, Graham said the priority is making sure Iran “cannot become again the largest state sponsor of terrorism,” but he repeatedly rejected the idea that the president needs a strategy to guarantee that outcome.
In a tense exchange with moderator Kristen Welker, Graham said it’s not the job of U.S. leaders to pick Iran’s next government and stressed there will be no American troops on the ground. Critics have raised concerns about long-term regional stability and the absence of a post-conflict plan.
