Great American Con: How Corporate Greed Keeps You Distracted and Broke
They Don’t Care About Left or Right—They Care About Keeping You in the Dark
There’s a scam running through America, and it’s been perfected by the biggest names in corporate boardrooms. It’s not about selling products. It’s not about providing jobs. It’s about keeping you too distracted to notice they’re robbing you blind.
Let’s get one thing straight: Corporations don’t care about your values. They don’t care if you’re conservative or liberal. They care about one thing—profit. And right now, they’re making record profits while you argue about bathrooms, books, and woke capitalism.
Take Walmart, for example. They built their empire on low wages and cheap products. Now they’re cutting back on diversity programs, not because they suddenly believe in equality, but because it’s a convenient way to placate conservative activists while boosting their bottom line. Meta and Amazon are doing the same thing—trimming DEI initiatives to avoid legal risks and stay in the good graces of the rising conservative tide.
But here’s the kicker: These corporations aren’t doing this out of ideology. They’re doing it because they’ve crunched the numbers. They’ve realized that keeping the far-right happy is more profitable than standing up for equality.
The Culture War as a Distraction Tactic
Look at what’s happening around you. Politicians and media outlets are screaming about culture wars—drag shows, book bans, critical race theory. Meanwhile, corporations are quietly laying off workers, slashing benefits, and buying back their own stock to boost executive bonuses. And who’s paying the price? You.
They’ve perfected the art of distraction. They’ve got you pointing fingers at your neighbor while they’re picking your pocket. They want you mad about woke capitalism so you don’t notice that your wages have been stagnant for decades, your healthcare costs are skyrocketing, and your retirement is a pipe dream.
Corporate Greed Isn’t New—But It’s More Brazen Than Ever
Remember when George Carlin said, “It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it”? That wasn’t just a joke. It was a warning. The people at the top have been running this scam for decades. But what’s different now is how bold they’ve become. They’re not even pretending to hide it anymore.
Take Meta, for example. They’ve cut their DEI programs, laid off thousands of workers, and yet Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth continues to climb. Amazon? Same story. Jeff Bezos stepped down as CEO, but he’s still raking in billions while the company slashes benefits and overworks its warehouse employees.
And let’s not forget about the legal challenges from groups like America First Legal, led by Trump’s former advisor Stephen Miller. They’re suing corporations for having diversity initiatives, claiming they’re discriminatory. The same people who pushed for Muslim bans are suddenly worried about discrimination? Give me a break.
Why They Need You Distracted
Here’s the truth: They need you fighting culture wars because if you ever realized how badly you’re getting screwed, you’d flip the system on its head. They need you angry at drag queens and immigrants so you don’t start asking why billionaires are paying lower tax rates than you. They need you to believe the problem is your neighbor, not the CEO counting his money while you struggle to pay rent.
And the media? They’re in on it too. They’ll report on the latest culture war outrage because it drives clicks and ratings. But when was the last time you saw a headline about corporate tax dodging or wage theft? Exactly.
The Real Enemy Isn’t Who You Think
The next time you hear a politician ranting about woke capitalism, ask yourself: Who benefits from this narrative? It’s not you. It’s not your family. It’s the guy in the boardroom, the billionaire donor, the corporation that doesn’t want you to think too hard about why you’re working harder for less.
Corporate America doesn’t care about your politics. They care about keeping you distracted. Because as long as you’re fighting each other, you’re not fighting them.
What Can We Do?
First, stop falling for the distraction. Stop buying the corporate PR bullshit. These companies aren’t your friends. They don’t care about inclusion or equality unless it boosts their brand image. And they’re certainly not worried about offending anyone unless it costs them money.
Second, start calling it out. When you see a company rolling back DEI programs while giving their CEO a raise, say something. When you hear a politician ranting about woke capitalism, ask them why they’re not talking about corporate tax breaks and wage theft.
Finally, remember who the real enemy is. It’s not your neighbor who votes differently. It’s not the immigrant family down the street. It’s the billionaire CEO, the hedge fund manager, the boardroom executive who’s making decisions that keep you poor and keep them rich.
Stay angry. Stay informed. And keep calling out the bullshit. That’s how we fight back.

Brilliant work and thank you so much! I'm totally blown away by how people left right and center seem to be missing this exact point. There are lots of issues but we are totally screwed if we cannot get corporate greed and its influence on our government under control. It's why I'm supporting all these young people in the Luigi movement. Because they seem to be the only ones noticing. Free Luigi all the as many of us older folks just seem to be stuck with our heads in the sand with the attitude it's just too much and what can I do?!
Greed sure as hell is NOT . . . GOOD!!!!! (despite any goddamn dramatic film dialogue!)
