Federal officials including the FBI, NSA, and CISA say hackers tied to Iran have already targeted water systems, energy grids, and communications networks. Some attacks involved attempts to access industrial control systems that could disrupt real-world operations.
The same group has claimed responsibility for breaching medical giant Stryker and accessing the personal email of FBI Director Kash Patel, though officials say the leaked material did not involve classified data.
Experts say the ceasefire may actually give hackers time to regroup.
The concern now is not whether attacks will continue, but how much damage the next wave could cause.
