Hegseth Declares U.S. Strikes in Iran Are Finite Mission, Not “Endless War”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Monday that the U.S. military strikes in Iran are not an endless war and the goal is a clear, focused mission against threats like long-range missiles and naval forces.
According to Hegseth, America didn’t start this conflict but under President Trump it is finishing it, tying the campaign to decades of tensions with Tehran. Hegseth emphasized the operation isn’t aimed at broad regime change, even as leadership in Iran has shifted, calling the change “beneficial.” He stated the U.S. avoids nation-building and will pursue decisive objectives without unnecessary casualties. Multiple U.S. service members have died as the conflict escalates, and Iranian and allied forces continue counterattacks.
Republican and Democratic lawmakers are reacting at home, with debates over war powers and the long-term direction of the conflict. Hegseth assured the public the military has a surgical strategy and defined objectives, not an open-ended fight.
