A quiet Saturday afternoon in Huntington Beach turned into chaos when a helicopter plummeted out of the sky near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Huntington Street, crashing into trees and scattering debris just steps from the beach.
According to early reports, five people were injured — two on board the helicopter and three pedestrians nearby. Witnesses described the terrifying scene as the aircraft spun out of control before colliding with the ground near the Hyatt Regency Hotel, leaving wreckage lodged in the trees.
Emergency crews pulled both occupants from the twisted frame and rushed all victims to nearby hospitals. As of this evening, officials have not confirmed the severity of the injuries or the cause of the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to take over the investigation, focusing on possible mechanical failure or pilot distress.
Pacific Coast Highway remains closed between Huntington Street and Beach Boulevard as authorities work the scene.
