House Democrats Say 33 Pardoned Jan. 6 Rioters Have Committed New Crimes: Report
House Democrats say at least 33 people pardoned for their role in the January 6 Capitol attack have been charged or convicted of new crimes, a claim tied to new reports released as the nation marks five years since the riot.
The reports released by Judiciary Committee Democrats raise alarms over public safety and governance, arguing that President Donald Trump’s sweeping pardons have had consequences beyond Capitol Hill.
According to the Democrats’ press release, the report titled “One Year Later: Assessing the Public Safety Implications of President Trump’s Mass Pardons” found that at least 33 pardoned individuals have faced new criminal charges, convictions, or arrests since January 6, 2021. The alleged offenses span from kidnapping and domestic violence to drug trafficking and threatening public officials.
The reports also spotlight “Where Are They Now: The Perpetrators of January 6th and the Defenders of Democracy Who Stopped Them,” contrasting pardoned insurrectionists now serving in high positions with democracy defenders who were reportedly demoted or fired.

“Where are we now as a society five years after January 6th?” said Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., in the report’s foreword. “One significant clue is to look at where the various participants … are now in their lives and careers.”
Democrats argue that the pardons have undermined public safety and accountability, while critics of the report note that Republican lawmakers dispute claims about insurrectionist appointments and broader implications. Reactions from Republicans and law enforcement officials remain emerging.

Democrats plan committee hearings this month to further examine the pardon impacts and press for legislative responses.
