This was one of the most political, egregious SCOTUS rulings in our country's history. The right side of this court is not comprised of "judges" as much as it is political operatives, beginning right at the top. John Roberts was, in 2000, down in Florida "overseeing" the election and "counting" votes (meaning throwing black and blown votes into the Bay of Biscayne). There is no way our founding fathers meant for money, or corporations to actually have a vote! This gives corporations and wealthy individuals two separate vehicles for influence, i.e., their personal support and financial assistance as well as their corporate support and financial backing. This is clearly a violation of the Constitution. There are cretins that need to be removed from the court and disbarred.

I agree BUT 'CITIZENS UNITED' merely embeds a policy pretty much in effect from the beginning. I absolutely DO NOT AGREE with 'CITIZENS UNITED' but until we elect Congress from the general population... !!!

All true but the Dumos have had a couple of opportunities to overturn this and have chosen to do other issues. Unfortunately with a two party system, we at the mercy of the other party; not the really corrupt one, the dum one.

Hang in there!

Unfortunately, 'CITIZENS UNITED' is NOT a suddenly new 21st century concept. Historically our country was, from the beginning, run by the wealthy. With the somewhat exception of Benjamin Franklin the FOUNDING FATHERS were all wealthy. The common person had very little say in our government. Black men had NO say; women had 'say' only via their husband. A working man had 'say' only as much as he befriended a wealthy neighbor either by working for or selling to the elite.

Thank you so much for the most informative article for one such as myself not savvy to all the ins and outs. I find this all rather sad in a retrospective way. I remember as a young adult marching in the streets chanting “Tax the rich, feed the poor” and “Make babies, not bombs”. I registered for the draft and got ready to go. Jane Fonda was dubbed “Hanoi Jane”, and Partty Hearst robbed banks. We had our share of problems: Charles Manson formed a murderous gang, Lyndon Johnson carpet bombed Vietnam, the Soviet Union moved into Cuba. We thought we had a solution, we even got branded as hippies. The stuff started to happen. Nixon continued to wage wars, blacks were still heavily discriminated in the South, the economy went sour, Nixon finalized taking our currency off the gold standard, protests against the military industrial complex heightened, students got shot in Ohio and I got tear gassed and locked in the stadium until the National Guard let me out. Twas a great Jefferson Airplane concert in the Akron Rubber Bowl… then things changed….for a while… fifty some odd years later… here we are again. Wake up America and get ready for May Day. Peace.
