ICC Moves Toward Decision on Karim Khan Following Sexual Misconduct Findings
ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan has been suspended after disciplinary proceedings tied to sexual misconduct allegations advanced to a new stage, placing the future of one of the world’s most powerful international legal officials in the hands of the court’s member states.
The International Criminal Court’s governing body announced the suspension after determining the case should be referred to a special session of the ICC’s 125 member countries. The allegations involve claims by a female staff member who accused Khan of coercive and non-consensual sexual conduct. Khan has repeatedly denied the accusations and argues the proceedings are unfair.

The suspension does not automatically remove Khan from office. Member states will now decide whether further disciplinary action, including removal, is warranted.
The case has drawn significant attention because Khan oversees some of the ICC’s highest-profile investigations and arrest warrant requests involving global conflicts. The dispute has also fueled debate over accountability, due process, and the credibility of international justice institutions.
