ICYMI: Ten Weeks Into the End Times and Somehow Still Stacking(?) um Subbing(?)
Two series, shoe enthusiasts, Musk's latest antics, and keep your hands off our mail!
Big news first: we hit 10,000 subscribers!
Apparently, doomscrolling with context is still in demand. To celebrate (and to make our boss happy), we launched a new paid option:
Just $1 a week gets you access to 400+ articles, exclusive reporting, and the occasional early drop.

Now, onto the regularly scheduled collapse of democracy...
It’s been ten weeks since Trump re-entered the White House and, wow, what a completely stable and not-at-all dystopian time we’re having. In the last couple of days:
The Dow tumbled after “Liberation Day,” which included actual tariffs on a penguin-inhabited island with zero people.
President Trump skipped a dignified transfer of four American soldiers to golf with Saudi royalty. Priorities!
Joe Rogan offered a job to the Department of Government Efficiency to investigate why Snow White flopped. Thanks, Joe!
So yeah... things are going great!
Oh, and an 80-year-old woman was dragged out of a Tennessee townhall, Musk’s money couldn’t buy a judge after all, and Cory Booker spent 25 hours reminding us what it means to stand for something.
Between all that, we dropped some of the most important reporting we've done—two big series and three under-the-radar pieces that deserve another moment in the sun. So here’s your ICYMI rewind:
SERIES FINALE: Deregulation Nation
Story: Rigging the System
If you feel like the system is rigged, it's because it is. The final chapter of our "Deregulation Nation" series lays out how the Trump admin has methodically dismantled regulatory protections and rewired the machinery of government to serve the ultra-rich.

Meanwhile, in the American Twilight Zone...
A Texas Republican (sigh) quoted Nazi Propogandists Joseph Goebbels during a Congressional hearing, you know, as you do.
Despite tons of cases challenging the regime’s actions, SCOTUS decided that flavored vapes are the priority (no surprise, they agreed with the FDA to block them because despite the world ending, we can’t hasten the end with bubblegum breath)
House Dems proposed a bill requiring Musk and DOGE to pass drug tests (hmmm…. wonder how that would turn out?)
And Speaker Mike Johnson rage-closed the House after failing to block a proxy-vote for new parents (aww…. is him big mad? Does little Mikey need a binkie?)
🚨 Shameless Plug Alert
We're not saying subscribing to our paid tier will fix American democracy...
But you'll get the full archive, exclusive reporting, and at least one cathartic eye-roll per week.
💸 $1/week—join here.
Now get out there and cause some good trouble! April 5th is a day of protests across the country. Grab some cardboard and markers, locate your nearest Tesla showroom or government office, and (peacefully) raise some hell. Tell em Booker sent ya.
